Is Kosovo for Real?

When looking at the standings of Group A in Euro 2020 qualifying, I can’t believe my eyes. It has nothing to do with England on top of the group. Instead, it is all about Kosovo.

Kosovo has yet to lose after three matches played. First, a 1-1 draw at home against Bulgaria started off the campaign.

In all honesty, tying Bulgaria at home wasn’t something to write home about. But a 1-1 tie away from home against Montenegro on 7 June was a well-earned point.

On 10 June Kosovo defeated Bulgaria 3-2 in Sofia and the winning goal came from Elba Rashani in the third minute of stoppage time.

Group A consists of England, Czech Republic, Kosovo, Montenegro, and Bulgaria. This is obviously a weak group with the exception of the England.

But Kosovo only trails Czech Republic by one point in the Group A table and this is amazing.

Kosovo has already clinched a spot in the Euro 2020 playoffs due to winning its group in Nations League play, but Kosovo has a chance at claiming an automatic qualification spot.

It obviously won’t be easy, but even the football experts and pundits have to admit that it is possible for Kosovo to finish second in the group behind England.

Milot Rashica and Elba Rashani have been the stars as of late for the Kosovar national team and it comes as no surprise considering that Rashica plays for Werder Bremen and Rashani used to suit up for Norway at the U21 level.

The Kosovo national football team continues to get better especially because of footballers switching allegiance to Kosovo.

Right-back Florent Hadergjonaj of Huddersfield Town made one appearance for Switzerland in a competitive fixture two years ago, but ultimately decided to play for Kosovo less than one month ago.

We must face the facts in that Czech Republic, Bulgaria, and Montenegro are nothing special and Kosovo will have a good shot at claiming the second spot in this group.
